Judo: An Effective Defensive Style
« on: August 26, 2018, 11:14:58 AM »
Judo is an offshoot of Jujitsu and it means "The Gentle Way" in Japanese.  It first developed by O-Sensei Jigoro Kano in Japan circa 1882.  It has since evolve into an exciting Olympic Sport.

Incorporating Judo in Karate strengthens your defense since it deflects and uses the opponents energy akin to Aikido, Hapkido and Jujitsu.  But what I like about Judo is its effectiveness against multiple opponents in close range when Incorporated in Karate.  The sweeps, holds and body throws comes naturally with Karate and is very effective in street fighting.

Last month, while I was walking home, my bag was snatched by somebody. I was really traumatized. My officemate told me that I should train for a good self defense exercise. Would you recommend Jujitsu for me? I have a medium frame. Based on your thread, it looks like a good exercise.

I watched the olympics and the judo competitions really excited me. It seems like a pretty simple defense mechanism to learn and I would really love to get acquainted with it.

I have watched this game in Asian game 2018 in Palembang Jakarta Indonesia. I think this sports requires lots of energy. Physical strength is needed to win in this game. The player should use body weight to be able to let the opponent loss points.

This reminds me of an incident a year ago when my 25-year old niece was held up in the street. It was fortunate that she had a training in karate and judo. That gave her the courage not to be scared of the knife on her neck. After grabbing the knife and wringing the hand of the criminal, she was able to make a good judo throw that the criminal fell on the ground. But my niece said that the guy was so quick to run that she was not able to pursue. She got the knife as a souvenir but the cops got it when she reported the incident to the nearby mall.
