What's the Deal with Butterfly Knives?
« on: August 27, 2018, 06:38:58 PM »
Butterfly Knives are really just Filipino short outdoor utility knives.  In local language it's called Balisong.  It's prohibited carrying one in the streets nowadays but in the past, until the 80's a lot of people carry such knives.

People carry butterfly knives as a pocket utility knife.  It's not really used for fighting because like we do have longer and tougher blades for that.  It's really for cutting or slicing meat or fruit or cutting thin rope  in the outdoors.  It's blade is made out of train tracks so its definitely tough and because it's a pocket knife it's handle is traditionally inlaid with jewels or gold if not animal horns.

Although it can also be a good concealment weapon because if closed the standard length is about 4-6 inches and when open, it doubles it's lenght.  Plus the intricate movement that is used in handling it can confuse the attacker as well as scare him.

They are very easy to toss from hand to hand, unpredictable.
