What was your First Martial Art?
« on: August 27, 2018, 06:23:40 PM »
My first Martial Art was Arnis / Kali which I started learning in our grade school P.E. class.  People don't really know that Stick fighting has an unarmed style using punches called Panantukan and kicks called Sikaran.  It's like kickboxing but the hand movements have traps.  It's very effective in close quarter combat, it also has a limited number of locks and takedowns.

I'm not really into martial arts although I have been a karate student when I was in high school. It was more of theories and calisthenics and very little sparring. To be honest I am not a fighter by heart although I know that in this cruel world you need to learn martial arts for self-defense especially when you are riding in public utilities because of the prevalence of crimes.

I have not tried any martial arts in my younger days. I think I can handle myself. If someone hurt me I can punch them. ( Ha.Ha.Ha ) I understand that having a skills in martial arts is a good advantage to protect ourselves from others who have bad intentions. Its for our own safety. I think its also nice to stay away from night activity to avoid trouble.

The first martial art I involved in was the Arnis because it seems cool to learn. Actually, I badly wanted to join Taekwondo but their uniform was expensive so I tried joining Arnis because the materials required was not expensive. But I did not regret being part of the Arnis team. I had a lot of fun training and learning fighting style we called 'anyo'.
